Description / Services
Only in Cavite province will you find this: Tahong Chips.
They are sold by tahong (mussels) vendors and some sari-sari (variety) stores in a seaside district in the town of Bacoor, bearing the label "Ocean Fresh."
I couldn't help but ask the vendor (who was also selling raw mussels), whether the chips passed through proper food handling and processing and she assured me they did, having been checked by the Bureau of Food and Drug. Of course, she'd say that.
The ingredients are listed as: fresh mussels, flour, spices and salt. And I really don't want to know how they make these things. I do remember having tried them before, and not being particularly impressed. This time though they came in a more professional-looking package.
Bacoor consists of Coastal Villagers whose livelihood focus primary on oyster and mussel culture. Fresh oysters and mussels are being sold along the Coastal road of Cavite. The abundance of these marine products especially the mussels, led to the birth of the Tahong chips, "an acceptable junk food" for all ages.
